Questions frequently asked by medical students, residents, fellows, non-provider students, placement coordinators and clinical instructors.

Please note: this section is only applicable to students going to an implementation site. For information related to a sustainment site, please see the Cerner Operations Training website.

Is training mandatory? I have a short rotation and don’t want to lose clinical time.
Yes, all users (staff and students) must complete the required training in order to get access to the CST Cerner clinical system. Inability to access the system will impact the student’s ability to complete clinical duties such as viewing or documenting in patient charts.
What is the impact on training if rotation information is communicated to CST Learning less than four weeks prior to the start date?
Student(s) may not have enough time to complete their training requirements before their start date. This will impact the student(s) access to the CST Cerner system and their ability to perform the duties in their placement. If last minute entries/changes are made, please email learn@cstproject.ca right away.
Do I still require training if I have already completed training at another site?
Medical Students: there is only one training requirement. If you have received training previously, you will not need to come back for additional training.
Residents/Fellows: the training requirements are dependent on the specialty of your rotation. If your upcoming specialty is different from the one you have completed previously, then you may need to attend an additional workflow review session OR only complete additional eModules online. CST Learning will reach out to you if you require additional training.
Nursing, Allied Health (including Lab, Pharmacy and Medical Imaging), and specified non-clinical roles: the training requirements are dependent on your role, type of placement, and site of work. CST Learning will reach out to you if you require additional training.
Based on the above answer, it looks like I don’t need any additional classroom or eLearning training. How do I login?
You will be able to access the CST Cerner system on the first day of your rotation, using the Network Account/User ID that is associated with the health authority of the site of which your placement takes place. If you have trouble logging into the computer using your Network Account/User ID, need to reset your password, or if you are able to login but are unable to see Cerner icons/applications please contact the Service Desk at 604-806-9333.

Do clinical instructors also need to complete CST training?
Yes, all users need to complete the applicable training in order to get access to the system. Some instructors may already have access as a staff member, please email learn@cstproject.ca if you are unsure if your current staff access is applicable to your role as a clinical instructor.
How do clinical instructors get registered for training?
Instructors are enrolled in the same manner as students; CST Learning will will email instructors to confirm training requirements or include details in how to complete training.
