WATCH: 'Mark’s Patient Journey' looks at the future of clinical care

In eight short minutes a new animated video captures the essence of what health care will look like in the not-too-distant future.

"The Future of Clinical Care: Mark’s Patient Journey" follows a carpenter named Mark, in the year 2020, as he checks into the Emergency Department at Squamish General Hospital with back pain. From there the video shows how the shared clinical information system is used to connect him with medical imaging, lab and pharmacy while he’s in the ED, plus follow-up visits with his GP and an oncologist at BC Cancer.

The video illustrates how the Clinical & Systems Transformation (CST) will help improve the safety, quality and consistency of patient care through things like computerized order entry and the use of barcoded tracking (key steps in closed loop medication management).
