As of September 26, new tools are available in CST Cerner to make workflows and compliance easier for staff who care for clients committed under BC’s Mental Health Act (MHA). This new technology promises quality improvement for clients in emergency departments and those in need of urgent access to care in acute, mental health, and inpatient units.

Staff and providers within Coastal's community of care report they can provide more seamless care since transitioning to CST Cerner, our new shared electronic health record system (read more about CST Cerner).​

On October 3, 2022 seventeen clinics within Providence Health Care (Providence) started using CST Cerner. This marks the latest group of clinics and services to move to the electronic health record system since it was first introduced to select Providence sites on November 16, 2019.

​With Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) and approximately 50 priority clinics slated for a November 5, 2022 go-live, Dr. Isac reflects on the impact the new clinical information system will have.

​Each year, an estimated 75,000 Canadians experience sepsis — a life-threatening illness triggered by the body's response to an infection. Once a patient becomes septic, they need immediate care to prevent tissue damage, organ failure and death, as each hour without treatment reduces the average survival rate by 7.6% (Journal of Thoracic Disease, 2020 12 (3): 1007-1021). 

After working with CST Cerner at Lions Gate Hospital, Lara Martin, Advanced Practice Physiotherapist, Arthritis Surgical Assessment Program (ASAP), VCH, has experienced how transformational the clinical information system can be.

On May 14, 2022 Sechelt Hospital, Totem Lodge, Shorncliffe Intermediate Care Home and Sumac Place joined other Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) Coastal Community of Care acute sites by transitioning to CST Cerner, an electronic health records system. This is part of the Clinical and Systems Transformation (CST) project rolling out across VCH, the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) and Providence Health Care.
