Questions frequently asked by medical students, residents, fellows, and non-provider students (including placement coordinators and clinical instructors).

Medical Students, Residents, and Fellows

Is training mandatory? I have a short rotation and don’t want to lose clinical time.
Yes, all users (staff and students) must complete the required training in order to get access to the CST Cerner clinical system. Inability to access the system will impact the student’s ability to complete clinical duties such as viewing or documenting in patient charts.
What is the impact on training if rotation information is communicated to CST Learning less than four weeks prior to the start date?
Student(s) may not have enough time to complete their training requirements before their start date. This will impact the student(s) access to the CST Cerner system and their ability to perform the duties in their placement. If last minute entries/changes are made, please email learn@cstproject.ca right away.
Do I still require training if I have already completed training at another site?
For Medical Students, there is only one type of classroom training. If you have received training previously, you will not need to come back for additional training. For Residents, the type of classroom training is dependent on the specialty of your rotation. If your upcoming specialty is different from the one you have completed previously, then you may need to attend an additional classroom session OR only complete additional eModules online. CST Learning will reach out to you to clarify what type of additional training you will need.

Based on the above answer, it looks like I don’t need any additional classroom or eLearning training. How do I login?
You will be able to access the CST Cerner system on the first day of your rotation, using the same Network Account/User ID that was used during your previous rotation. If you have trouble logging into the computer using your Network Account/User ID or need to reset your password, please contact the Service Desk at 604-806-9333. If you are able to login to the computer but aren’t able to see Cerner icons/applications, please contact CST Support at 884-214-7444.

Non-Provider Students

I'm a placement coordinator/clinical instructor. Where do I find the most recent CST updates?
Please refer to the emails provided by CST Learning, visit the Student Practice Education webpages for VCH, PHSA or PHC, and check back on this webpage.
What is the impact on training if placement information is entered into HSPnet less than four weeks prior to the start date?
Student(s) may not have enough time to complete their training requirements before their start date. This will impact the student(s) access to the CST Cerner system and their ability to perform the duties in their placement. If last minute entries/changes are made, please email learn@cstproject.ca right away.
Do clinical instructors also need to complete CST training?
Yes, all users need to complete the applicable training in order to get access to the system.
How do clinical instructors get registered for training?
Instructors are enrolled in the same manner as students; CST Learning will reach out to academic placement coordinators to confirm training requirements.
