Information for students

The Clinical & Systems Transformation (CST) project is a joint undertaking between Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) and Providence Health Care (PHC) to complete a significant transformation of clinical practices and systems.

As part of this transformation, the CST Cerner system will be implemented at around 40 facilities across VCH, PHSA and PHC.

Information about clinical placements

Students include individuals who have a placement component as part of their program requirements such as the following:

  • Medical learners: medical students (undergraduates), medical residents (including clinical fellows, post-graduate trainees, visiting residents)
  • Nursing, Allied Health (including Lab, Pharmacy and Medical Imaging), and specified non-clinical roles

To get ready for clinical placements at sites using, or preparing to use CST Cerner, students will need to complete all the applicable training requirements. The training process is different for sites that are already using CST Cerner (called “sustainment sites”) and sites that have not yet implemented CST Cerner (called “implementation sites”).

To find out if you are placed at an implementation site or a sustainment site:

  • Check the full list of live sites (updated February 2024), or see the live CST Cerner sites map (updated September 2023).
  • If your site is on the list, you are at a sustainment site.
  • If your site is not on the list, you are at an implementation site.

Once you have determined if you will be at a sustainment site or an implementation site, you can follow the below pre-placement process applicable to you and your site, and complete all required training.

Pre-Placement Process for Medical Learners

Process for Implementation Sites

1. UBC Coordinators to enter student information into HSPnet at least four weeks before placement start date.

Note: Site Coordinator(s) to add VISITING (non-UBC, out of town/province) Medical Students, Residents, and Fellows to the implementation user list, as visiting users are not listed in HSPnet.

2. CST Learning will pull HSPnet reports at least four weeks before placement start date to plan for applicable training sessions.

3. CST Learning to enroll student into applicable curriculum in LearningHub.

3a. Student to create LearningHub account.

4. CST Learning to email Learning Journey information to student's academic email.

5. Student reviews Learning Journey which contains information and instructions on how to complete training.

5a. Student to make sure health authority network account/user ID (ADID) is ready.

6. Student completes training requirements.

7. Student has access to CST Cerner for duration of placement.

Health Authority Network Account/User ID (ADID)

You must have your Health Authority Network Account/User ID from uas@hssbc.ca when you arrive on site. It will be sent to your academic email (e.g. name@student.ubc.ca) within four weeks of your placement start date. If you have not received this email, contact the Service Desk for your health organization.

The User ID allows you to login to the computers on site, and you may have to activate your account on site in order to set up a password.

CST Cerner Access

Once you have logged on to the on-site computer, or logged on remotely using your Health Authority Network Account/User ID and password, you will be able to access and use the CST Cerner application(s).

If you are unsure of your CST Cerner logon Network Account/User ID, please check your academic email or email associated with your LearningHub account. Please search for the subject CST Cerner Access. If you have any other access related issues (including password reset), please contact the Service Desk for your health organization.

Please remember to use the correct Network Account/User ID and password associated with the health authority of the site of which your placement takes place. You will be able to access the CST Cerner application across all sites and health authorities.

LearningHub

LearningHub is an online learning management platform that allows CST Learning to register you into your online curriculum. Students can access LearningHub to complete the applicable eLearning modules and self-directed content.

Make sure your LearningHub profile is up-to-date and linked to your academic email address. Use this how to guide for help.
