Additional VCH-Vancouver sites are now on CST Cerner

On October 28, 2023, another CST project milestone was reached with the activation of CST Cerner at VCH-Vancouver’s UBC Hospital (UBCH) campus, including Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, and three long-term care sites. Purdy Pavilion at UBCH, Banfield Pavilion on the Vancouver General Hospital campus and Banfield at Villa Cathay in Strathcona are the first long-term care sites within Vancouver Community to start using CST Cerner.

CST Cerner, an integrated electronic health records system, and related practice changes are designed to improve the safety, quality and consistency of care for patients and their families across British Columbia. More than 40,000 care providers across Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), Provincial Health Services Authority and Providence Health Care sites are now using the same system to improve patient care.

Patients visiting UBC Hospital, or other facilities using CST Cerner, can expect an enhanced care experience since their care teams will have seamless and immediate access to patient records. They will experience safer medication management, faster access to lab results and medication therapies and spend less time repeating information or undergoing duplicate tests. Staff and physicians will have their patients’ up-to-date medical records at their fingertips, allowing care teams more time to focus on the patient.

With Vancouver General Hospital and UBCH integrated on one electronic health records system, there is now even smoother flow of patients and patient information between these two associated VCH facilities, in addition to enhanced connectivity with other sites across the province already using the system. Some of the major sites on CST Cerner include:  Lions Gate HospitalSt. Paul’s HospitalBC Children’s and BC Women’s Hospitals, BC Cancer—Vancouver, and more recently, Forensics Psychiatric Hospital. See the full list of sites here.

More sites across B.C are expected to start using CST Cerner in 2024, benefitting even more patients and their families. Watch this space for updates.
